Abstract

Transwoman slang which is formally called as Binan language is one part of the varieties of slang. Only those who are community members can understand what is being said when using various slang. Therefore, this language is usually used when talking about things people outside the community do not want to know. This research was conducted using qualitative methods. The data source was the transcripts of conversations conducted by 12 members of PERWARIS (Persatuan Waria Semarang). The data were analyzed based on the theory of slang written by Southerland and Katamba (1997). The results showed that the slang of trans women in Semarang could come from various languages, and the language they use has a deviation of meaning. In addition, their slang vocabulary is still limited, so that it cannot be used to form a complete sentence.
