Abstract

Jennifer’s Body is a unique movie that cannot be predicted who the main character is by watching it for the first time. Unlike other movies that commonly have linear stages, the stages of events in Jennifer’s Body (based on Narrative Theory) is somehow unpredictable. This study aims to answer how Todorov’s Narrative Theory applied in Jennifer’s Body film. By watching the movie several times, the writer analyses the parts of the story to find out and to classify the stages of narrative theory that is applied in this movie. The result of the study is: The First Restored Order becomes the first stage of the movie, followed by First Equilibrium, Disruption, Resolution, Second Restored Order, and New Equilibrium. In First Restored Order, the main character is put in a mental asylum as the consequences of the crime that she or other character has committed. In First Equilibrium, it is told that the main character lives a normal life. The boys from the band disrupt the normality by sacrificing a virgin woman’s soul to Satan. Disruption starts when the main character misunderstands and confirms that her friend is a virgin. Resolution starts when the main character is aware of the problem, even though other characters don’t. Second Restored Order continues First Restored Order stage. In New Equilibrium, the main character tries to bring back normality by killing the people who cause the chaos.
