Abstract

Rituals are important parts of human lives. Ritual can be celebrated either on a daily basis or particular occasions. The ritual that is selected as the object for this research of this ritual is Asrah Batin ritual. Based on my research my findings are: First, The Asrah Batin ritual is a ritual which held regularly every two years on Sunday Kliwon (Javanese calendar) by Karanglangu and Ngombak community to preserve and strengthen their solidarity. This ritual is based on a Kedhana- Kedhini legend in the villages. Asrah Batin ritual is a High-Context ritual because there are dress code, formal setting, certain purpose, and particular structure of celebration. A tradition passed down from one generation to another. The community has a strong belief to the good things they are going to obtain from this ritual. It means that they consistently maintain the sacredness of the ritual. The second is that Asrah Batin ritual is found to have 8 functions for Karanglangu and Ngombak community as follows: 1) To remember the founders of Karanglangu and Ngombak village, 2) To strengthen the relationship as family (Brother and Sister), 3) To increase the solidarity between Karanglangu and Ngombak community, 4) To Avoid the Bad Things and Disaster, 5) To Communicate with Supernatural Things, 6) To renew the Identity of Karanglangu and Ngombak village, 7) To provide a means of culture and and moral teachings, 8) To entertain people who joining the Asrah Batin ritual.
