Abstract
This research used 35 male Wistar rats, which were given high fat diet for 30 days to increase the cholesterol level. This high-fat feeding aims to increase the risk of an atherosclerosis, by increasing the amount of cholesterol in the blood and platelet activity. Rats that already in the hypercholesterolemia condition, are given Mucuna pruriens fraction. The seeds of Mucuna pruriens contain flavonoid antioxidants that have the ability to decrease platelet number, which can minimize the risk of an atherosclerosis. Mucuna pruriens fraction is given in three doses, namely 500 μg/g BB, 425 μg/g BB, and 350 μg/g BB. For comparison value, aspirin is also used besides Mucuna pruriens fraction, because its ability to decrease platelet number. Administration of the Mucuna pruriens fraction and aspirin was conducted for 30 days, and then continued by antiplatelet activity measurement. In vivo test result shows that antiplatelet activity increased in line with the decrease of the number of platelet and leukocyte. Administration of the Mucuna pruriens fraction at a dose 500 μg/g BB, give the best antiplatelet activity which can reduce 28,56 % platelet number.
