Abstract
The primary aim of this research is to prove that narratively the Godfather articulates the idea that family should take precedence over anything else. This research examines narrative analysis of the Godfather film. Using Tzvetan Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as a framework, the research analyzes its plot, main character (Michel Corleone), and family values. Socio analysis is required to analyze this research. Also, the research uses qualitative methods. All the data were obtained from the dialogue spoken among characters. The major finding presents that the Godfather narratively speaks about the idea that the family is everything. Narratively, the research shows that the plot consists of five stages: equilibrium, disruption, recognition of disruption, attempt to repair, and reinstatement of the equilibrium. Also, for some additional cinematography, the Godfather embodies tonal and metric montages to emphasize the emotion from different shots and to create a suspenseful atmosphere. The Godfather’s main character, Michael Corleone, develops the anti- hero trait from a weak man to the dominant and more intimidating one. The family values that are projected in the Godfather consist of tradition and culture, the dignity of family, support, responsibility, and trust.
