Abstract

As human beings, we are special creatures that have ability to communicate in various ways. It is undeniable that in the modern era the way we speak is called multimodality of communication. Gesture is one of nonverbal communications that human beings might use to communicate. This research searches deeper into Minahasan people’s past and present lives represented by Kabasaran dance, and study the gestures and their meanings in Kabasaran dance. Understanding the gestures and meanings in Kabasaran dance could acquire the messages of the value of life and mindset of Minahasan people to maintain this culture and art. This research is done qualitatively by doing some observations, interview, library research and data analysis. The result of this research is about the gestures that include in the Kabasaran dance in North Sulawesi and what are the meaning of that gestures.
