Abstract

This research focuses on Kungkum ritual in Tugu Soeharto, Semarang. It aims to explain the process of Kungkum ritual performed in Tugu Soeharto, Semarang and the reasons people still perform this ritual. To collect data, the writer did observations and interviewed fourteen informants. In addition, the writer read relevant written materials. Three procedures must be done in conducting Kungkum’s ritual. The first one is done before the main ritual by the Kungkum practitioners at home, the second one is is done during the ritual in Tugu Soeharto, Semarang; and the third one is done after the ritual in Tugu Soeharto. People perform Kungkum ritual for four reasons, those are, to establish brotherhood, to request blessing for success (mencari berkah), to purify one’s self, and the last is to maintain the tradition.
