Abstract

quality have a bad or good quality based on the pixel have low or high pixel. The low pixel making the image so dark or bad then high pixel making the image bright and good quality. So, it needs an image processing operation to enhance the quality of image. There are many operation to enchance the image quality with point operation, spatial operation, and transformation operation. This research analyze two methods of digital image improvement, namely histogram equalization(HistogramEqualization, HE) in spatial operation and contrast stretching (Contrast Stretching, CS) in point operation. This method can improve the quality or clarify a digital image. Contrast Stretching technique is an image improvement process by stretching the gray level so the pixel level spread wide while HE through spatial / filtering operations by leveling pixel values so that the average pixel is relatively the same. This research also using the parameter to caclulate image quality namely PSNR(Peak Signal Noise Ratio) in order to know the better image improvement both of the method. The results of this study can be taken into consideration in choosing image quality improvement methods for preprocessing image processing. The results of histogram equalization have not been said to be better than stretching contrast, or vice versa when testing in original image that have a bright or dark quality . This is caused by the influence of the condition or composition of the original image and calculating into PSNR(Peak Signal Noise Ratio) to know the quality of image.
