Abstract

The success of teaching English to children may be influenced by their attitude. This research has been conducted to explore the attitude of students of second grade of Kebon Dalem Elementary school. The research methods used are quantitative and qualitative. To obtain data, the writer applied two steps: questionnaires and interviews. The results of this research are presented in tables and charts describing the calculation results of the questionnaire and descriptive explanation taken from the students‟ interview. The result shows that in behavioral components students prefer to learn English with their friends and to study when they have spare time. In cognitive components students claimed that learning English makes them able to communicate in English, so they keep trying to learn it. In affective components, students remain happy in learning English and trying to learn even when they feel shy, nervous, worry, afraid, and uncomfortable when learning English. The conclusion of this research indicates that the second gradestudents‟ attitude at Kebon Dalem Elementary School Semarang in learning English is positive because the students are enthusiastic in learning English.
