Abstract

The series of My Nerd Girl 2022 is a web series that portrays bullying issues at school and in the family. This series describes the major character named Fara, the nerd girl who wears glasses, always wears a jacket/sweater, has bangs, black hair, brown skin, and a slim body. Fara always gets bullied by the three popular girls because her appearance does not fit the appearance of the ordinary students in a popular school in Jakarta. Fara also gets bad treatment from her parents. She gets bullied in many ways. The writer is interested in researching the types and effects of bullying experienced by Fara. The writer used a qualitative method in this study. The types of bullying represented in My Nerd Girl 2022 using the theory proposed by Darney (2009), and the effects of bullying using the theory of Rigby (2003). This study finds that people see Fara negatively because she is different from others. She experiences physical bullying such as chasing, trapping, hitting, slapping, hairpulling, throwing something, kicking, pushing, intimidating, and threatening physical gestures. Verbal bullying such as name-calling, spreading bad rumors, and putdowns. Social bullying such as the glance that conveys hurtful messages and disgusting expressions. As a result, Fara brings the negative effects such as low selfesteem, feels ignored, unhappy, and depressed which decides her to commit suicide by jumping from the top of the building.
