Abstract

Film is a mass communication which is very broad in scope. Film has also become a medium that represents social conditions and one of the films that represents social life is the Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly, which tells the life conditions of the Indonesian Chinese in facing discrimination. Film is often used as a study, especially in semiotics which is closely related to the study of signs. The research with the title Discrimination of Chinese Ethnicity in the Film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly (Roland Barthes 'sematic analysis) draws the formulation of the problem of how the image of discrimination against ethnic Chinese Indonesians in the film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly is based on Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. With the aim of the research is to know the description of discrimination against Indonesian Chinese in the film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly based on semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes. This research uses qualitative methods as well as literature study in seeing how ethnic Chinese discrimination in the film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly which is the subject of research. The analysis used in this study is to use Roland Barthes' semiotics which focuses on the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth, but in this study the author only focuses on denotation and connotation. The results of this study indicate that in the film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly, there are 20 scenes that show scenes of discrimination against ethnic Chinese which are categorized as verbal and non-verbal discrimination. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the film Blind Pigs Who Want to Fly represents discrimination against ethnic Chinese. This discrimination is represented more in verbal than non-verbal signs.
