Abstract

ABSTRACT In this semiotic research, the writer bring up the theme problems of racism in the America by unraveling the representation of ―ThisIs America‖ music video by Childish Gambino. In this case writer try to look at how Gambino representing theracism through his music video, in this research writers use qualitative methodology. Qualitative is a research based on descriptive and using analysis. In the study of qualitative is more reflect the process and meaning. The basic theory used as a pilotage to focus the research in accor dance with the facts. With the first tep looking for some variable pertaining to the title, among others is the main data of ―This Is America‖ music video and how racism happened in America. The next step writer will need to start conduct data collection by using some method of data collection like observation and literature studies. After data has been collected so the next step is processed that data with filling system until the data fit to a category as a reference to the researchers to start analyzing racism representation in ―This Is America‖ music video with used the John Fiske semiotics method. With the result of that method research, writer get answers on How Childish Gambino represent racism in ―This Is America‖ video clips. Keyword: Semiotic, Racism, MusicVideo.
