Abstract

This research focuses on the plagiarism occurred in the students of Faculty of Language and Arts Unika Soegijapranata who are taking thesis. As a rule, there should be less than 10% similarities but there are some students who have more than 10% similarities, thus, the writer was interested to know their perception of plagiarism. The writer used questionnaire to get the data given to 30 students of Faculty of Language and Arts Unika Soegijapranata who are taking thesis. The first to seventh statement in the questionnaire were to find out the students‟ understanding about plagiarism while the eighth to the twentieth statement in the questionnaire were to find out the reasons why they do the plagiarism. The writer found that most respondents did not understand accurately that plagiarism occurred when they submitted an essay which was not theirs although they had the permission to use it, made some language changes, changed the order of the sentences, and also changed the grammar of the sentences. The writer also found that there are some factors that made the students do the plagiarism, except the statement number ten, twelve, and also thirteen. It clearly pointed out what factors made them do the plagiarism in their thesis.
