Abstract
Being the husband of a queen presents challenges for Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. The challenges are shown in The Crown TV Series Season I . The fact of being the Queen’s husband brings some situations of his opposing his wife, and this resistance is caused by the patriarchal pride that sticks to him. This research attempts to analyze the resistance of Philip to Queen Elizabeth II. This thesis, entitled The Resistance of Philip as the Queen’s Husband in The Crown TV Series makes use of gender roles theories and feminism approach in its analysis. The researcher uses qualitative method to do the research. The primary data were obtained from The Crown (2016). The analysis reveals that Philip’s resistances arousing from his view on the patriarchal tradition in which man should become the leader in family. As a result, Philip finds it difficult to accept the Queen as his leader and the decision maker in the family matters. The position as a queen makes Elizabeth II more powerful than her husband, and this reality makes Philip looks weak and powerless.
