Abstract
Snacks cannot be separated from students along with the amont of time spent in school. Nutritional content and food safety of snacks is an important factor that must be considered. Children snacking behavior can be affected by many factors. A better nutritional and food safety knowledge will help children to choose a safe and healthy snack. The purpose of this study was to determine effect of food advertisement in television, nutritional and food safety knowledge toward snacking behavior of elementary school children between 9-12 years old in SD Lamper Tengah 01 Semarang. Total respondent in this study was 119 students of 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade.The questionnaire covered on knowledge about snacking behavior, television viewing habit, snacking behavior and food advertisement. Direct observation was held to record food advertisement that appeared during children’s program on television. The correlation test which used in this research were Contigency test and Kendall. It was showed that respondent of 9-12 year old could answer the question about balanced nutrition intake and food safety of the purcashed snack food with average score for all was 7,32. Most interesting food advertisement is fast food advertisement (16,53%) and most frequently watched food advertisemnet is bottled water (24,37%). The results of contingency test indicated that there was a relation among most interesting food advertisement and most frequently watched food advertisement with snack’s reason and purchasing of snack, beverage and meal. There was positive correlation between television viewing frequency and television viewing duration with snacking frequency.
