Abstract
This study aims to determine the parenting by a mother in preparing children to enter primary school. The method used is qualitative with phenomenology approach and sample determination using purposive sampling. There are three subjects in this study. They are mothers who have got children that have been children ready to school based on psychologist Neejmegse Schoolbekwaamheids Test (NST). The results of this study indicate that in nurturing children ready to school requires more involvement and control from a mother. The involvement shows by accepted and warmth. It needs time with the children, provision of facilities and empatic communication to support them. Controling by giving demands to the child for having necessary social behavior and competencies in school such as literacy, arithmetic, writing, comunicative and creative thinking. To make it happen the three subjects often hold conversations with the child to express the reasons for the demands given along with the award of praise or reward for the expected behavior and reprimand and sanction for inappropriate behavior.
