Abstract
Materialism has been experienced by many people in many different times. Among those times, many people in America experienced materialism in 1920. Materialism is a way of thinking that gives too much importance to material possesions rather than to spiritual or intellectual things. Using sociological perspective which allows to deal with social phenomena and use of materialism, this research finds that materialism act and behavior is shown through the major characters of the film. Those examples are party-making, adultery, and show–off behavior as well as greedy and heartless character. vii
