Abstract
Puss in Boots is one of the most popular fairytales with a lot of versions. The two most popular versions are Wonderful World of Puss N’ Boots (1969) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022). Despite being adapted from the same fairy tale, both movie versions have their differences. This thesis discussed the character development of Pero and Puss using Vogler's Hero's Journey theory. By doing qualitative research, the analysis of the 1969 version finds that the character development of Puss’s character is little to none, with his personality remaining the same. He also only experiences eight of twelve stages of the Hero’s Journey, with the excluded stages being the refusal of the call, the road back, the resurrection, and the return with the elixir. Meanwhile, the analysis of the 2022 version finds that the character development of Puss’s character is more significant compared to the 1969 version because Puss in the 2022 version learns a lot from his journey experience as the hero who went through eleven of the twelve stages of the Hero’s Journey. The 2022 version did not use Christoper Vogler’s stage of refusal to the call. Key Words: Puss in Boots, character development, Vogler, Hero’s Journey
