Abstract

As mastering English is necessity nowadays, there are many institutions or courses offer English language as a language to study. In order to fulfill the students’ needs and to improve the quality of the teaching, an English course should continuously do needs analysis. This study took CLT (Centre for Language Training) as a place to do the research. The writer tried to find out the CLT students’ needs by giving questionnaire asking the needs of pre basic level 3 class which consist of 40 students. This class was chosen as this is the level before the students begin to take EGP class. The result of the study shows that the skills needed by the students are different in study at present and after graduating from school. Basically the students need all four skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) to help the students practice their language and make them enjoy the teaching learning so they could be motivated in improve their English, but the degree of importance is different from time to time. It’s mean that the function of these skills are different from needed at present and needed after they are graduating from school.
