Abstract

Each year, Government under the program of Afirmasi Pendidikan Menengah provides scholarship for numbers of students from Irian Jaya to pursue education in another area of Indonesia including Java. Since the cultural difference are undeniably massive, some students having major difficulties in adjusting themselves on the new environment and even worse experiencing Adjustment Disorder. This study aims to illustrate the effectiveness of Group CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to enhance psychological adjustment among these students. Total 4 participants from a private school in Salatiga underwent Group CBT, which intentionally developed for this case, for two weeks consecutively. Psychological adjustment was measured using BASE-6 (Brief Adjustment Scale 6 items) in three time measures (pre-treatment, post treatment, follow-up). Statistical analysis (Friedman Test) shown significant difference of psychological adjustment overtime. Graphical analysis and qualitative data based on follow up session also reflected the increase of interpersonal functioning and decrease of distress symptoms. Implication of this study will be further elaborated.
