Abstract

Recycling is a most constructive approach to reduction impact of plastics waste pollution in environmental especially aquatic environmental. The high rate of plastics production and consumption is leading to increasing amount of plastics waste in environmental. The aims of this research were to know (1) generation of plastics waste in TPS (shelter meantime) of Tambak Rejo in Semarang city, (2) separation practices of plastics waste in Jatibarang Final Disposal (TPA) to applied in the Tambak Rejo shelter meantime and (3) analysing plastics waste recycling potential. The result show that plastics waste in TPS (shelter meantime) of Tambak Rejo dominated by thermoplast resins. The composition of thermoplast resins is PET 35%, HDPE 12%, PP 11% and LDPE 42%. All of the plastic resins in TPS can be repeatedly melted and solidified by recycled processing. Recycling plastics waste in TPS Tambak Rejo can use plastics waste collecting and separating procedures that performed by scavengers and plastic garbage collector who live in the surrounding area of Jatibarang landfill. The factors affecting recycling potential are market 88%, incentive 72%, quantity and composition of waste 73%, collection and separation 85%, as well as recycling network 87%.
