Abstract

Every journalist is given freedom of the press in digging and processing information. This freedom has been regulated in Law number 40 of 1999. In supporting the press freedom, journalists have a Journalistic Code of Ethics as a behavioral limitation in carrying out journalistic activities. Criminal news as one of the desk in the news, has an appeal because it contains threats. The use of language styles for criminal events related to the community is the focus so that journalists remain based on the Journalistic Code of Ethics. This study would like to see the application of the Journalistic Code of Ethics to the criminal news of Radar Semarang Jawa Pos Letters especially in articles 4 and 5 which regulates that journalists do not broadcast information that is slanderous, sadistic and obscene and does not broadcast the identity of victims of sexual crimes and does not broadcast identity of perpetrators of child crimes. The focus of this study refers to the Journalistic Code of Ethics articles 4 and 5 which are presented through descriptive content analysis approaches with quantitative methods. Data obtained from research results through documentation and interviews assisted with research instruments in the form of guidelines for interviews and coding sheets that have been compiled by researchers. The results of this study indicate that the Jawa Pos Radar Semarang Daily Newspaper has implemented the Journalistic Code of Ethics article 4 and article 5 in its publication process well, although there are still few violations of the Journalistic Code of Ethics articles 4 and 5.
