Abstract

Taboo words and swearwords are two terms that seemed alike while actually they \\ ere quite different. It is known that a certain thing is better not said, not because they can Ilot be, but because people consider not to talk about it. People may call that expression as linguistic taboo. Taboo can be assumed as the things that are avoided because that action can I L'ad to some negative effects. Meanwhile, swearwords were the taboo words which were used to express such an ,'motion. However, it did not always about bad emotion. Sometimes, the words could be used 1\) express strong positive emotion like feeling happy or excited. The method used in this ~esearch is the qualitative method by using private document, 1 <) determine the category of swearwords used in Facebook. Based on the data that had been : athered, the writer mostly found out that tile sexual reference category was the most Irequently appeared under the taboo words category. He also found out that among the other , ategories, insult (noun) category was the one mostly frequently appeared under the :-; wearwords category.
