Abstract

This study aims to understand the "internet infidelity" in middle-aged women through the analysis of Erikson’s psychosocial development theory. The term "internet infidelity" refers to the occurrence of romantic or sexual relationships in a person who already has a commitment in an exclusive or permanent relationship or briefly can be described as an extra marital relationship by using the internet. This study uses a qualitative method. The subject of this study amounted to three middle-aged women who become perpetrators of "internet infidelity". This study based on interviews. Interviews are conducted in the place where the research subject is domiciled and by telephone. The data analysis process begins by reviewing all available data from the interview. While the validity and reliability test is done by persistence observation and examination of peers and through discussion with the supervisor. The results of this study indicate that the cause of middle-aged women who become perpetrators of "internet infidelity" can be found or understood by using Erikson's psychosocial development theory analysis. Through this analysis it can be seen that middle-aged women who do 'internet infidelity' has experiences failures in its development, among others, are not having self-identity as an adolescence, not experiencing intimacy during early adulthood and not reaching generativity in middle adulthood.
