Abstract

Some coastal areas in Indonesia are tidal flooding prone areas. Semarang is one of the tidal flooding prone areas that suffer “rob” which is getting worse day by day. In order to maintain the performance of concrete structure in tidal flooding prone areas, it is important to protect the element of building structure, especially column, with proper materials for repairing. In this research, several broken columns were repaired by applying polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent. The research wants to investigate whether polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent can be used to increase the performance of column repairing in tidal prone areas. This research conducted two activities, the first is experimental activity and the second is in site application activity. For the experimental activity, there were several specimens of mortar cubes of 5 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm for composition optimization of polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent. The application activity was located in Sayung (Sriwulan village) which is a tidal flooding prone area and Pucang Gading which is in a dry area as control site. In the application activity, Hammer Test was applied to all repaired columns for compressive as a non- destructive test. The research finds the followingresults: 1) Columns that were repaired by polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent have higher compressive strength compared to the one repaired by plain mortar. The difference between compressive strength of columns repaired by polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent and columns repaired by plain mortar is about 30%; 2) Compressive strength of column repaired by polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent at Sayung site and at Pucang Gading site has only about 0.3% difference; and 3) Polymer modified mortar with bonding adhesive agent performs very good compressive strength for tidal flooding prone areas.
