Abstract

Inferred from several linguists, code mixing is a common phenomenon for bilingual or multilingual group of society. In this research, the \¥Titer was inspired from the increasing number of expatriates who working, studying, or even just staying in Semarang to be analyzed. Therefore, the \¥Titer determined the exchange students to be the participants of this research. The \¥Titer noticed that as a student from overseas, they must be learn and adapt a new language to communicate with local citizen for several times as they will live in Semarang. The purpose of tins study is to investigate the exchange students' application toward code mixing, especially for the time and the factors have affected them to do code mixing. In order to make the research as original as possible and to avoid any manipulation of the data, the \¥Titer used video recording observational and supported by virtual interview for the research method. Finally, the writer analyzed the transcription result and find out the correlation with t1ie tHeory in the review of literature. The findings shows that the time and the factors have affected of code mixing usage are depending on how long the participants engage witH Semarang, its culture and citizen.
