Abstract

Annual rings of a tree trunk contain a information. For example, to know the age of tree by looking how many the annual rings on the trunk. Therefore, the writer need to analyze them to get the number. Before do the process, the writer need to convert it into digital image then the writer start the image processing. In this project, the image of annual rings in trunk will be processed. Image will be change into grayscale then apply the median filtering. Next step is doing the edge detection and continue with edge linking. After finished, next step is doing thresholding to separate the detected annual rings object with the background then calculate those rings with chain code. And the result shows all of the result images and the number of annual rings. From the result of testing that has been done, the best result obtained by annual rings image that rings line look clearly and there are no other object in the background.
