Abstract

This study discusses about Transitivity process in a narrative text called Rumpelstiltkin. Transitivity is a system which consists of process, participant, and circumstance which serves to discover how meanings are realized in the text. The problem formulation of this study involved two parts “What is the transitivity analysis of Rumpelstiltskin?” and “What‟s the most dominant process found in Rumpelstiltskin?” The results show that there are six transitivity processes involved in Rumpelstiltskin. They are: material, mental, behavioral, verbal, relational, and existential. Overall, the most occurring process in Rumpelstiltkin is material. The writer argues that the author uses material processes to illustrate events through concrete actions and tries to introduce the actors by showing their actions. This way will help children to think and imagine the story more easily through concrete actions. It will make them comprehend the story better.
