Abstract

Understanding students’ attitudes and perceptions towards the use of ChatGPT for Academic Writing assignments is significant to the learning process. This research aimed to investigate the attitudes of students towards the use of ChatGPT for Academic Writing assignments and to find the perceived benefits of using ChatGPT for Academic Writing assignments. This paper studied the attitudes of students from the Faculty of Language and Arts at Soegijapranata Catholic University who had taken Academic Writing course in the even semester of 2023/2024 towards the use of ChatGPT for Academic Writing assignments. The students’ attitudes were invest igated in terms of their cognit ive, behavior al, affective, and perceived benefits. The data were collected using quantitative methods by distributing online questionnaires to 30 participants. This research revealed that most students had positive attitudes and perceptions toward using ChatGPT in doing their Academic Writing assignments. Students liked and felt helped by using ChatGPT for Academic Writing assignments. They can do writing assignments more quickly and efficiently. The use of ChatGPT increased their selfconfidence. Additionally, it facilitated them in exploring concepts and ideas in writing. Keywords: Attitudes, Perception, ChatGPT, Academic Writing
