Abstract

Students as the next generation of the nation are not free from the risk of stress influenced by physical, social (economic and family), and psychological (frustration and uncertainty) factors. Family support plays an important role in helping students overcome stress. This study aims to determine the relationship between family social support and stress in students. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a negative relationship between family social support and stress in students. This means that the higher the family social support, the lower the stress experienced by students, and vice versa. This study involved 113 students from Soegijapranata Catholic University and used a quantitative correlational method with the PSS-Fa scale (Mery E) for family support and stress scale (Irawati). Data were collected through Google Form and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a correlation of -0.315 (sig = 0.000), so the hypothesis was accepted. The informational support aspect had the highest correlation with stress (r = -0.284), while instrumental support had the lowest (r = -0.171).
