Abstract

Podcast is the modern version of the traditional radio. As a new form of media created during a digital age, podcast is not only heard but also seen. Podcast is similar to YouTube, yet different in the stage setting because viewers see a host and a guest having conversation on a particular topic in a radio station area. Deddy Corbuzier is a well-known celebrity in Indonesia. He has his own podcast program called #CLOSETHEDOOR that is structured into three segments: the opening, middle, and end. This thesis finds that by using qualitative analysis to discover the structural hermeneutics of the talk show, the opening segment of Corbuzier’s show that gives a talk on Indonesian penal code with the guest named Yasonna Laoly shows viewers 1.1 million. The middle segment shows the core of the topic, which is the conversation about Indonesian penal code law and regulations. Finally, the ending segment shows the conclusion of conversation, with the smiles and handshake of the host and guest, and finally the music theme and voice over of the host. As a popular culture, Corbuzier’s podcast maintains its popularity by not only inviting a well-known guest, but it also makes use of sponsor merchandises and advertisements on the radio set stage. Vibrant colors and unique text size are used in the show to attract viewers’ attention. Topic wise, Corbuzier, has made sure that the guest he invites knows well about Indonesian penal code, which is checked with the Indonesian penal code law like reported in the research. Stage wise the podcast maintains the display of a radio station with its microphone, headphone, and soundproofing walls.
