Abstract

Hyde Jekyll Me is a Korean Drama in 2015. This drama series was adapted from the Webtoon Dr. Jekyll is Mr. Hyde by Lee Choong-ho's, a romantic and comedy genre. This drama tells the story of Geo Seo Jin, a rich man who has everything in his life, good-looking, wealthy, and intelligent. Geo Seo Jin has two personalities. Geo Seo Jin's personalities are Geo Seo Jin himself and their other personality named Robin. The public knows him as Geo Seo Jin, dull, cold, and selfish. This personality is different from his other personality, "Robin." The public rarely knows this personality. Just people who are close to Geo Seo Jin know that he has this personality. Robin's personality is friendly, caring about his surroundings, and he likes to help. This study aims to analyze the personality of Geo Seo Jin in the drama Hyde, Jekyll, and Me. Geo Seo Jin, who has multiple personalities, is analyzed by Freud's theory. According to Freud, the behavior results from conflict and reconciliation of the three personality systems (id, ego, and superego). The id in this drama is shown by Robin's good nature and likes to help others. The ego in this drama is shown by Geo Seo Jin's arrogant, selfish, and cruel nature. Likewise, the superego in this drama is shown by the nature of Geo Seo Jin to maintain his image and position in the Wonderland group. Geo Seo Jin's dual personality is caused by his childhood trauma when he was kidnapped. Moreover, his guilt made him create a new personality, namely Robin as his superego. The second personality, or Robin, appears when one of them is in shock, unconscious, and the turn of time from morning to night.
