Abstract

Progress in the economic field, especially in urban areas causes changes in lifestyle toward a lifestyle that demands everything become practical. This also impacts the habit of consumption or eating patterns. People become less in paying attention to food safety of their eating pattern whether processed by themself or processed by the other party (eating outside). This is related to the housewives who have the dominant role and influence to make the decision concerning family’s eating pattern. This study aimed to evaluate the perception of risk and control of food safety aspects in the provision of food which being processed by the consumers themselves and processed by other party of housewives in Graha Estetika real estate Semarang. The data collected through a survey using a list of questions (the questionnaire) with the help of VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). The data was then analysed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and graphs. The results showed that the mean value of self cooking risk perception ranges between 1,38-2,23; the mean value of eating outside risk perception ranges between 5,76-8,00; the mean value of self cooking control perception ranges between 8,42-9,46; the mean value of eating outside control perception ranges between 3,30-5,25. From these results it can be deduced that the risk perception of respondents, on food safety aspects when self cooking is lower and more controllable than when eating outside. Based on the correlation analysis, it can be seen that food safety aspects are interdependent with one another, both in term of the level of risk and the level of control when self cooking and eating outside.
