Abstract

Saint Joseph Catholic Church that is located on Ronggowarsito Street Semarang has a high historical value to the development of the Catholic Church in Indonesia. Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Semarang has Gothic furniture consisting of Tabernacle, Altar, Pulpid, Sedilia Chair and Bench. Gothic furniture conservation includes 1 Tabernacle, 2 Altars, 2 Pulpits, 3 Sedilia Chair and 78 Benches. The conservation principle to note is the value of the authenticity of the material, the value of the authenticity of design, the value of the authenticity of workmanship technological and the value of the authenticity of the layout. Planning procedures on Gothic furniture conservation that is done by researchers covers conservation feasibility study, analysis of damage and recommendations of the intervention. The activity conservation on Gothic furniture that is currently done related to the treatment is cleaning ligh impurities using a feather duster or smooth cloth. Priest or Chief Priest has an important role in determining the furniture conservation. The raw materials that used to make the furniture is Teak and Oak wood. The Tabernacle, the Altar, the Sedilia chair and Bench are still original and its age is more than 132 years. A correct conservation activity concerning maintaining and repairing Gothic furniture are done weekly, monthly and yearly. A special maintenance on Gothic furniture is a meticulous and careful in cleaning and use a brush and a cloth on shaped pillars, carved tendrils of plants, fruits, animals and measurable decoration (Masswerk).
