Abstract

Based on the results of the Total Diet Study (TDS) by the Ministry of Health through the Research and Development Agency of Health in 2014, the energy sufficiency level of Indonesia's population in 2014 averaged only 76.6%. The number of people belonging to the normal category or meeting the energy sufficiency rate (100-130% AKE) is only 14.5%. Staple food is the most routinely eaten food in the most abundant amount, filling, as well as a major energy source in human activities. In Indonesia, more than 90% of the people consume rice as their staple food. This study aims to determine the consumption pattern and energy intake of staple food in households in Sondakan and Pajang, Laweyan Sub-District, Surakarta. In this study, 50 respondents responsible for the provision of food in the household will be interviewed with 2 types of questionnaires; Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and 24 Hour Recall Diet. Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) is done once by listing the gram and frequency of consumption of various types of staple foods that have been determined. 24 Hours Recall Diet is done 6 times for 2 weeks non-consecutively (4 weekdays and 2 weekends) by listing the type and amount of staple food consumed. The data tabulation was done with Ms. Excel, while data analysis was done by descriptive analysis and Kendall's Tau-b correlation test and Mann-Whitney test to know correlation between variables with SPSS for Windows. From this research, it is found thatrespondents tends to eat 3 times a day with the same staple foods. The most-consumed staple food from this research is rice. It is found that the staple food consumption pattern is significantly influenced by the number of family members, and insignificantly influenced by economic level, income, education, and nutritional knowledge. The more family membersexist in the household, the more amount of staple food should be consumed to fulfill the energy adequate of all the family members. It is also found that the higher the level of the economy, income, and level of nutritional knowledge, the higher the percentage of adequate energy sufficiency in the household. Rice are the most dominant staple food that is consumed by the respondents. The energy adequacy from staple food available in the households is still relatively low at only 19.08%. The results can be caused by food consumption pattern outside the household. Keywords: survey, staple food, consumption pattern, energy, recall diet, ffq, Surakarta
