Abstract

The diversity of ethnics in Kalimantan brings its own implication for development local languages, including Mandarin language. In contrast to other areas, Mandarin language is still used as daily language by Chinese Indonesian in Kalimantan. There are two objectives, first what parents’ attitudes toward the heritage language is and second, what the parents do to maintain the heritage language. This writer used quantitative method. The writer used questionnaire to collect the data. Then, the data was analyzed using SPSS 16. The results showed that the parents had positive attitudes toward Mandarin language and they did some efforts to maintain Mandarin language.
