Abstract
Small and Medium-Size enterprises (SME’s) firm performance is a complex. Our research study seeks to accomplish this examination by conceptual model with the two distinct but related outcome dimensions, growth as one dimension and profitability as another. We propose hypotheses for relationship between environmental hostility, firm size, and innovation capability to pursue product and process improvement. Furthermore, we propose that SME’s product and process improvement orientation have greater influence on growth and profitability performance. This study is conducted on a sample of about 52 small medium-size enterprises in Semarang. Used the Partial Least Square, the findings of the study suggest that innovation capability likely has greater influence on product and process improvement, but not find of environmental hostility and firm size. In addition, the result confirm the strong association of product improvement with growth and in turn profitability, whereas the process improvement showed no statistical relationship to growth an ultimately profitability.
