Abstract

The value of American individualism can be learned from analyzing Stargirl Caraway who is the main character of the movie Stargirl (2020). This movie is the result of the artistic creativity of American society that shows the value of individualism. According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, individualism is one of the cultural values of the American Spirit where an individual must have the responsibility to fight for what he believes is right and no one has the right to limit him. According to him, the form of individualism is self-reliance and self-confidence. This research used a qualitative method to conduct a content analysis of the movie with the value of individualism. The research found that the individualism of Stargirl Caraway was seen in the way she displayed (1) her strong will, (2) her originality and creativity, (3) her stand on her own two feet, (4) her competence, and (5) her lack of anxiety
