Abstract
Hallyu or Korean Wave is phenomenon that has emerged because the internet has become easier these days. Public’s interest in Korean wave can also be felt in Indonesia with the growing popularity and the number fans of Korean culture such as music, movies, fashion, etc. One of the things that fans of Korean Pop music or Kpop do is read fictional stories that also made by fans. This fictional stories is knowns as fanfiction. The difference between fanfiction and fictional stories in general is using Kpop idol as characters in the stories. The genre in fanfiction is the same as other fiction stories, but romance fiction with romantic stories between men is demanded by Kpop fans who are mostly women. This study aims to see the motives of female K-pop fans when reading this genre of fanfiction and how the gratification is. The research was conducted with in-depth interviews with 4 informants who are female Kpop fans who read male homosexual romance fanfiction. From the in-depth interviews that has been conducted, then it was discovered that among Kpop fans there is a culture of pairing up Kpop idols. This leads fans to fulfill their fantasies by reading gay romance fanfiction. Furthermore, regarding uses and gratification it is found that all of informants generally use fanfiction to divert from daily problem and routines.
