Abstract
This study is on request strategies. It investigates how the adult male and female patients use request forms to the nurses. The participants of this research are adult patients who are hospitalized in Ken Saras Hospital, Ungaran. The writer recorded 10 adult male patients and 10 adult female patients who make requests to the nurses. The conversations were recorded and transcribed. From the transcript of the conversations between the adult male and female patients who are hospitalized in Ken Saras hospitals, the writer found that there is not any significant difference between the request strategies applied by male or female adult patients. It is seen from the occurrences of the request strategies applied. In addition, the request strategies which are mostly used by male adult patients are hints at 60.71%, followed by imperatives at 16.6%. The female adult patients also show the same condition. The most frequently request strategies used by female adult patients are hints at 56.56%, followed by imperatives at 26.26%. In addition, both of them do not use Embedded Imperatives.
