Abstract

Artemisia is a character from the movie 300 : Rise of An Empire. In this movie, she appears as a woman who chooses her life to be a naval commander to represent the woman empowerment. The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual images of Artemisia from the movie which portray the girl power theory by Emily Zaslow. The aspects analyzed are her figure and the accessories she wears in this movie that do not only depict the freedom of her feminine side as a woman, but also show her masculine, powerful, and independent side as a commander. The result of this study shows that there are several things: the figure / or body stature, the costumes, the accessories, the weapons and also the use of black color to prove that Artemisia can be a masculine and also a feminine in order to reach her dream and become a powerful commander.
