Abstract
Thesis is one of the requirements that must be fullifilled by students at the end of their study. In the Faculty of Letter, the students are required to write their thesis in English. There are difficulties faced by students in the process of writing English thesis. Therefore, difference of perception appears among the students regarding thesis writing. Students have their own difficulties in writing English thesis. The purpose of this study is to find out the students’ perception towards problems in writing English thesis. The data was collected by the questionnaires distributed to 75 respondents of the English department students in universities in Semarang who were writing English thesis and analyzed by SPSS – 16.0. The questionnaires were adopted from Tajino and Lee’s (2008) written in their article entitled “Understanding Students’ Perceptions of Difficulty with Academic Writing for Teacher Development: A Case Study of the University of Tokyo Writing Program.”. The result of this study shows that there are six different sources of difficulties the respondents perceived in writing English thesis. Additionally, the six difficult parts dominate the process of writing English thesis. Therefore, it affects more in the process of finishing their thesis.
