Abstract

Bullying has a long-term impact on mental health. Individuals who have experienced bullying as children tend to experience mental health disorders, one of them is depression. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by feelings of deep sadness. The subjects in this study were two people who had been victims of bullying, had experienced violent behavior during school, and met the diagnostic characteristics in DSM-IV, namely moderate depressive disorder. This research aims to reduce depressive symptoms through Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). REBT is a cognitive behavioral approach that emphasizes the relationship between feelings, behavior, and thoughts to invite individuals to change irrational thoughts into rational thoughts and can train individuals to be able to face the realities of life rationally and increase individual self-confidence and abilities. This research uses a type of experimental research in the form of a single subject through data obtained directly from researchers through observation, interviews, and psychological tests. The results of measuring depression using the BDI II in the form of pretest and post-test resulted in the finding of a decrease in depressive symptoms, initially borderline moderate depression and then decreasing. This research reveals changesin individuals related to the symptoms of depression experienced such as excessive anxiety, difficulty sleeping, fear, guilt and low self-esteem which results in individuals thinking irrationally, anxiety in socializing and lack of self-confidence.
