Abstract
The Central Maluku region has been hit by various natural disasters, including floods, flash floods, high waves, abrasion, drought, extreme weather, landslides, epidemics, disease outbreaks, forest fires, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis, causing significant environmental damage. However, the government and society have taken measures to prevent further environmental damage. The people of Central Maluku have long been practicing the tradition of Sasi, which prohibits the taking of produce from land and sea early, as a form of local wisdom to preserve land and sea products optimally and sustainably. Initially there was only traditional Sasi, but with the influx and increasing number of Protestant adherents, religious Sasi emerged, namely mosque Sasi and church Sasi, so the researcher chose church Sasi in GPM, Central Maluku Regency. The research method that researchers use is an analytical method, namely qualitative with descriptive presentation to identify the most effective crisis management strategies for preventing environmental damage using any type of Sasi. The findings revealed that the church's crisis management plan, which includes seaweed Sasi, coconut Sasi, lompa fish Sasi, and couscous Sasi, has been successful in preventing environmental damage in GPM Haruku Sameth, GPM Hatuhenu, and GPM Teon Nila Serua namely prodromal, chronic, acute and resolution. They also use crisis recovery strategies, namely adaptive strategies. The adaptive strategies implemented include the action of planting trees in watersheds, forests or barren environments, clean Saturdays (cleaning the environment as a congregation/community), family planting-fishing-marketing movements and green offices in the form of keeping the environment clean. The actions carried out by the church are coordinated with interested parties such as village government, traditional institutions, TNI/Polri and entrepreneurs. The conclusion of the research is that the community and congregation have succeeded in recovering their condition from the crisis of environmental damage through church sasi in early January 2023 to January 2024.
