Abstract
In tertiary institutions, lecturers should use andragogy teaching methods in the educational process which helps students (in fact adults who are in the early adult phase) to develop their potential to the fullest. At UNIKA Soegijapranata, the Soegijapranata Learning Model (SLM) learning method is implemented, which in essence is a combination of contextual andragogy learning with the development of critical-creative-visionary-caring-resilient character. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was an increase in student involvement after participating in SLM learning. The learning design is in the form of seven hybrid meetings. Pre-post measurements (once at the beginning of the activity) and post-test (at the end of the activity) are carried out with a scale of involvement in learning to be able to calculate the effectiveness of increasing student involvement. A total of 59 students participated in this activity. The results show that the SLM learning method does not increase student engagement. This happens because (1) students are not involved in planning the objectives of the learning material so they do not feel they own the activities they are going through and are not wholeheartedly involved; (2) the use of the hybrid method means that not all students can participate optimally, especially those who attend lectures from home; (3) the lecturer did not change the teaching method for the next meeting, even though at the last meeting it indicated that students were not active in lectures; (4) the lecturer is not successful in motivating students to understand that the material being studied is important and useful for students.
