Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis, entitled ''A Study or Speech Acts in a Spongebob Squarepant s Movie, discusses the kinds of speech acts in cartoon movie's transcript or "Spongebob Squarepants ·· by using the theory of Yule ( 1996). The problems that have been analyzed are (1) the speech acts used in "Spongebob Squarepants Movie.", (2) the most dominant of speech acts which appear in "Spongebob Squarepants Movie ", Analysis result obtained from _ J 6 utterances shows that the speech acts used are declarations (0%). -represem atives (27° o , e pressives (26%). directives (43%) and commissives (4%). Thus. th1; most dominant speech acts in Spongebob Squarcpants Movie i directives because the movie story con ains of commands from the King Neptune to Spongcbob and his friends to find the r yal crown that was stolen by someone
