Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of Academic Writing class is to prepare students writing their thesis .. This thesis investigated the writing strategies used by the students who take Academic writing. This is a quantitative study. The writer uses questionnaire which has been constructed based on the one written by Oxford ( 1990). The writer constructed 44 items. The number of the participants who joined this study is 24 students who took Academic writing in the year of 2010/20 I I. I'hcrc are five writing strategic · narnclv memory strategics, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, mctac gnitivc strategies, affective strategies and social strategics. Jt is found that there are: no students use memory strategies. Most students apply cognitive strat zies with the mean 3.0 I, the average of compensate strategies is 2.67 The mean of metacognitive strategy is ".067 whereas the average of affective strategy is 2.9 1 Teaning hat students sometimes apply this strategies, The mean of social strategy is ,. 11. Thus it can he concluded that most academic writing students apply writing strategies.
