Abstract
In the 18th century society, there were norms, values lind ruics which conrrotled women's movements in every parts of life. They restricted women to be only as Through the controversy of Pamela. a new and different character of woman is men's servants and slaves, who are obliged to be submissive and servile. introduced. Pamela, the main character f Sa11111elRichardson's novel, is able to not have to be men's change the real meaning of servitude, III which Pamela creates her own definition of women in th I·g'h century. She changes the notion of women as mens servants into her wifely faithfulness and responbility toward her family and friends without abandoning her dreams and desires. Unlike most woman in her century, she introduces herself as a being who also has capability to use her briliant logical reasons to defend her rights in front of men, while at the same time she still gives her respect to them. These things make Pamela become a new portrayal of the 18th century English female.
