Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of learning phonemic awareness by using methods of structural analysis synthesis (SAS) to increase the student's ability to read the beginning of first grade.The research used experimental design one group pretest posttest design, the study subjects were 7 people first grade elementary school students who can not read the beginning. Measuring instruments used in this research is the ability to read the beginning of the test consists of about pretest and posttest. Based on the results of data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test values obtained with Z = -2,371 with p < 0,018 indicates a significant difference between the ability to read the beginning of the before and after teaching phonemic awareness by using SAS. Early reading ability after learning better than before learning (Pretest Mean = 10,14 becomes Mean Posttest = 25,86). These results indicate that the proposed research hypothesis is accepted.
