Abstract

Yuni directed by Kamila Andini is a film about a teenage girl who experienced dilemma about choosing between education and marriage. The main character in Yuni is Yuni herself. This thesis aims to find out the reasons of Yuni’s suicide. Yuni is an interesting research object because it shows the problems of women who lived in patriarchal society in Indonesia. This research was used a qualitative method combined with character symbolism theory. It can be seen in society’s view in the film. The patriarchal society applies their rules in daily life and emphasizes the women there to willing on them. The rules are based on the culture of patriarchy system from the old generation to the younger generation
